A local school celebrated the joys of storytelling and reading together.
Dainfern College learners took part in World Read Aloud Day with Grade 10 English learners visiting the junior prep Grade 0 classes to read stories to the children. There was mass excitement in the air as the younger learners got to spend time and interact with the older learners.
The senior prep Grade 4 created bookmarks and partnered with a reading buddy from the Grade 7 group. The younger learners enjoyed their time listening to the various stories and getting to know each other better.
The Grade 7 learners were asked to read the stories with expression and also encouraged their Grade 4 reading buddies to try their hand at reading.
Communications officer at the school Millisa Jardien said, “The day is centred around celebrating the power of reading and encouraging our students to read. The initiative is also a great opportunity for student interaction, and introducing and reinforcing vocabulary.”
