Local councillor commends Johannesburg Water team for working around the clock to restore water in Sunninghill

Residents forced to use on e-hailing to go to work after as a result of excavating work on their entrance.

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy has commended Johannesburg Water for working around the clock to repair a major water pipe burst on Peltier Drive.

This was after residents of Villa del Sol and Marise Crescent residential complexes were left without water for more than two consecutive days following the pipe burst.

Residents had to rely on e-hailing taxis to go to work due to the excavation work at their entrances.

“A team of Johannesburg Water has been phenomenally supportive of the residents of Villa del Sol and Marise Crescent on Peltier Drive and went beyond to ensure that their water supply was restored by late last night,” he said.
“It was a massive job as the Joburg Water team had to relay about 100m of new pipe. They had to close the water off at Marlboro reservoir to effect the connection of the new pipe to the main water line.”

A resident of Marise Crescent Rashveer Manila said, “Every year this water pipe bursts and makes it difficult for us to even access our homes. I’ve been living here for more than three years now and I know that in December this pipe will give us problems. We hope that Joburg Water will help fix this problem.”

The spokesperson at Johannesburg Water Puleng Mopeli urged residents to refrain from building on servitudes after it was discovered that the water pipe was under a guard house of one of the complexes which made it difficult for workers to do their job. “This is encroachment and some residents do not follow proper processes and end up with such incidences,” Mopeli said.
