Security at Fourways Crossing foils attempted armed robbery and ensures customers of implemented safety measures

Following a second crime incident at Fourways Crossing on November 13, the shopping centre’s swift security response saw the plan foiled and one arrested.

Community members are being put at ease by local shopping centre security’s swift responses in preventing what could have been an armed robbery in one of their stores.

With the festive season fast approaching and Black Friday sales also taking place from late November, the Fourways Crossing has made a number of safety provisions added in place with current measures to keep shoppers safe.
Speaking on behalf of the shopping centre, marketing manager Smriti Boodhram confirmed the incident took place during load-shedding on November 13 around 12:00, and the swift response from security

“It was mitigated as Stallion Security Services noticed suspicious behaviour of patrons on entry to the shopping centre. The incident was dealt with utmost vigilance resulting in one suspect being arrested,” she said.
The mall also had an incident with another store that was robbed three weeks prior, but there were no injuries or damage to property. To further continue preventing incidents like this in the mall, Fourways Crossing has formed a partnership with the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum to assist where they can in keeping community members safe.
“Fourways Crossing in conjunction with the Douglasdale Community Police Forum has deployed Community Safety Patrollers to provide Stallion Security Services with operational support in a project to improve safety and security within Fourways Crossing as from November 16,” Boodhram told Fourways Review.

“We will further deploy a tactical team that will provide immediate armed response from early next week [November 21].”
Fourways Crossing previously spoke to Fourways Review regarding the previous incident in the article Local store robbed [Week ending November 4], where the mall had also put in a spike and boom entry-exit system that is installed with LPR (license plate recognition) capabilities linked to the national Natis database.
Douglasdale Police Station Commander Brigadier Veeshani Arikum said the police were aware of the incident, but also stated that there were no casualties, injuries or damage to property.
