Local councillor urge residents to log calls and report damaged infrastructure following recent heavy rains

Councillor said he will soon embark on an inspection walk about across the ward to check the extent of damage on roads and other municipal infrastructure.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley said the recent heavy rain had negatively impacted road and power infrastructure which led to power outages in different parts of the ward.

Foley said the damage to road infrastructure was mostly in Kyalami and Sun Valley, and Dainfern, Fourways, Beverley and Lonehill experienced power more than 20 hours of power outages. “We had 27 mini substations out in the Fourways and Lonehill area. I met with the Eskom management and we visited the areas to see the extent of damage to infrastructure. The damaged cables in the substations were repaired and power was restored. With the high water table and rain of late, any weak spot on the [electricity] cable is exposed and it is likely to blow.”

Foley urged residents to report any damage to infrastructure to his office or the City entities responsible.

“We will soon embark on an inspection walkabout across the ward to check the extent of damage on roads and other municipal infrastructure.”
