Douglasdale police celebrate newly ranked sergeants and warrant officers in their ranks

Ten officers from Douglasdale police were acknowledged for their hard work over the year to be promoted to new rankings at the station.

Douglasdale police celebrated the promotions of several officers in Lonehill.

Three officers were promoted to sergeants, five to warrant officers and two received lieutenant colonel ranks. Douglasdale Police Station Commander Brigadier Veeshani Arikum congratulated the newly ranked officers for all their hard work over the years. “We always say the universe is your oyster. You need to embrace that universe, embrace everything that you have to do. This is the next step into your future, so enjoy it. You are only as big as you want to be,” she said.

At the end of the ceremony, Colonel Moeti Senna of the station also congratulated the officers and reminded them of the code of conduct they needed to adhere to.
“It is an honour to be recognised but it doesn’t say you must stop where you are. When you see something is happening, open your code of conduct [book] and look at what it says. Do not let yourself get corrupt,” he said.

“I don’t want you to fall, I want you to go further and reach what it may be that you want to reach. Whether it be to become a colonel or brigadier, great. But I want you to succeed.”
Newly promoted Warrant Officer Nicholus Mokwena has had a successful year after being named Man of the Year at the police district awards and first runner-up in the same category for the provincial awards a few weeks later.

“I have been waiting for this day for 11 years,” Mokwena said. “I am so excited at this ranking, and it has taken a lot of hard work. The next one is captain which is a commissioned officer, and I hope it will come sooner. There are a lot of responsibilities being a warrant officer but I am very happy.”
