Metro police impound material after unlawful billboard maintenance

JMPD continues to ensure that by-law management remains in place following the confiscation of tools and materials in Lonehill.

Officers from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department recently impounded materials used to unlawfully maintain a billboard in Lonehill.

While on patrol, officers from the By-law Management Unit came across the material on the corner of Witkoppen and Main roads.

Two heat guns, scaffolding and an extension cord were impounded.

According to metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla, without the correct permits in line with the City of Johannesburg’s Outdoor Advertising By-laws of 2009, the erecting and maintaining of billboards cannot be carried out across the city.

He added that individuals found contravening the by-laws can face hefty fines or even up to 20 years’ imprisonment.
