JMPD warns of fake advertisments and job offers on social media

Legit JMPD vacancies are published in newspapers and on the city's official website.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has distanced itself from fake advertisements that are currently circulating on social media and internet sites.

In a statement published on September 17, JMPD clarified that there are currently no vacancies for Metro Police officers in the City of Johannesburg.

“Genuine adverts will be placed on daily newspapers and the City of Johannesburg’s website only, not on social media platforms and dubious internet sites,” said JMPD’s spokesperson Xolani Fihla.

“Criminals have in the past taken advantage of and robbed young people of money for fake JMPD jobs. Some of the scammers were arrested for selling these fake jobs.

JMPD jobs are not for sale and we want to emphasize that no one is required to pay any sum of money for the vacancies. Once a successful candidate has met all the requirements and is accepted for training at the JMPD Academy, they will receive a monthly stipend,” he said.

False advertising is illegal and anyone who is caught will face the full might of the law and will be criminally charged. “We encourage members of the public to report scammers to the police and any other law enforcement agency.”
