Ratepayers association to install 20 concrete bins in strategic points Sunninghill

Sunninghill Ratepayers Association hopes to eliminate the scourge of litter by installing 20 concrete bins on strategic points

To make Sunninghill a litter-free zone, a local ratepayers association is in the process of buying and installing 20 rubbish bins at different strategic points.

The chairperson of Sunninghill Ratepayers Association Linda Gildenhuys said they hoped that placing more bins in the area would help reduce the amount of litter.

“We work with the City of Johannesburg and assist them in any way we can and this includes using our staff members that help empty litter bins and placing them in a central point where Pikitup comes and collects them. We also hire casuals to walk around the suburb every Monday and Friday to pick up litter.”

Gildenhuys said they would also embark on litter and illegal dumping education campaigns to raise awareness and teach community members about the negative impact of littering.

“We hope that by placing more bins in the area we will be able to reduce the amount of litter our casuals have to pick up and focus more on the emptying of the bins. We do know that residents and visitors to the area will litter irrespective of the bins. So once the bins have been installed, we plan to do a litter education campaign to teach our community about the catastrophic impact of litter on the environment.”

She appealed to members of the community and motorists to refrain from littering to keep Sunninghill clean.
