Co-founder of Harmonious Injectors music group believes music and art has power to guide youth

Harmonious Injectors co-founder believes that through different kinds of art, whether dance, singing or poetry can help youth overcome many social challenges

My name is Nicholas Hlongwane (22) from Riverside View and am the co-founder and conductor of the well-known local music group, Harmonious Injectors.

I was raised by a single mother who taught me great values and gave me proper guidance for me to become a better human being.

Going to church every Sunday with my grandmother helped me develop a love for music.

We started Harmonious Injectors art organisation as a group of like-minded youngsters in 2017 and registered it as a non-profit organisation in 2020 to help get youth off the streets.

I strongly believe that through different kinds of art, whether dance, singing or poetry, we can overcome many social challenges faced by young people in different communities.

Our mission as a music group is to recruit and help young people sharpen their art skills.

This year, we partnered with a Chartwell-based robotics company to help our members learn about the robotics industry for them to widen their scope when it comes to career choices.

We also hosted a successful Youth Day music concert in Chartwell and performed our hit songs that attendees still speak about today.

Our organisation also hosts art exhibitions, and awareness campaigns about crime and chronic diseases to teach local youngsters about the dangers of unprotected sex and participating in criminal activities.
