Lisa Mancer is a resident who is an admirer of all things art and gives back to others through her creativity.

This local creative enjoys going out to movies with her friends and going to the theatre to watch all kinds of shows, whether a one-man show in a small intimate theatre, art shows or musical theatre to major productions at the Teatro. “I love all things creative, the arts in all its wonderful forms, it all began with my roots, growing up in Durban, attending high school and doing my diploma in textile designs at the Durban Technikon,” said Mancer.

She moved from Durban to Johannesburg in 1990 and she is a mother and wife. “I have a son who is a fabulously talented musician, DJ and videographer and I like to think that it was all the time that I spent in the theatre that has brought him to this place,” she joked.

This art enthusiast has also extended her creativity in a way that gives back to the community. She is involved in community initiatives such as the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela where she knits and crotchets blankets for those in need. Her passion for knitting and crocheting and giving back to the community started when she was running the outreach programme at Dainfern College in which some of the moms began by teaching the high school learners to knit and crochet.

She loves cooking and spends 30 minutes in her garden every day watering, nurturing and taking care of her flowers and herbs which she also shares with her neighbours.
