Leeuwkop Lawn Bowls Club members ready to play in the elite league next year

Member of Leeuwkop Lawn Bowls Club said it was an honour to be named club of the year.

After an incredible 2021/2022 season, Leeuwkop Lawn Bowls Club was announced, the Club of the Year at the annual Johannesburg Bowling Association (JBA) prize-giving.

The prize-giving was held at Morningside Bowling Club on August 14 and was attended by representatives of all clubs participating in the JBA League.

Chairman of the Leeuwkop Lawn Bowls Club Bernard Baries said it was an honour to be named Club of the Year.

He said the criterion that was used to achieve this accolade was transformation, participation in the competitions, growth in membership and competitiveness in the tournaments.

“To receive the title of Club of the Year in the JBA is no mean feat and it is a huge honour. This is also the first time in history that the Leeuwkop Lawn Bowls Club received this award. What makes this accolade even more interesting is the fact that it gives the club a promotion ticket to play in the Premier League next season.”

He said the club would have to double its efforts and work hard to remain at the top.

“The club has now definitely set the bar for other DCS Bowling Clubs to follow suit. The club’s bowlers, however, are the first to acknowledge that it is one thing to become number one and another to remain number one. Hard work will be required but our colleagues have already begun planning for next season.”
