Midrand-based NPO celebrates Women’s Month

While celebrating women in business in Kyalami, Connect to Feed NPO has also called for interested individuals to get involved in their community work.

Connect to Feed, a Midrand-based non-profit organisation was in Kyalami for a celebration of Women’s Month and women in business on July 30.

Women Empowerment League hosted several women who own small businesses to promote the work they did for the community and non-profit organisations.
Connect to Feed was founded by Upama Srivastava in 2020 at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, where they and volunteers would assist community members and waste pickers in need.

Swati Bhagat, communications manager for Connect to Feed said the day was about celebrating the women involved and reaching out to more people.
“When we started, we gave cooked food to workers outside various shops, our helpers, litter waste pickers as well. Slowly, people started joining and we registered the non-profit organisation.

“Today, the day is about giving exposure to the women entrepreneurs in small businesses. It’s a day to boost women entrepreneurs and help them network with one another, especially for those who have started their businesses. It’s even more fitting with Women’s Day coming soon,” she said.

Bhagat said they had been involved in several community projects including donations to old age homes, orphanages and a Christmas drive for children in Ivory Park.
“We felt really good about what we’re doing and wanted to reach out to more people, and let those who would like to join us get in touch with us. We want more people to know us and join our team.”
