Greater Fourways and Morningside community called upon to assist with blanket donations for winter

The drive is still running until August, with community members able to make a payment of R85 which will be used by the Rotary Club of Morningside.

Community members are encouraged to take part in the Winter Blanket Drive run by the Lonehill Residents Association (LRA) and Rotary Club of Morningside.

The drive has run from March every year since 2010 and this year is no exception. The blankets cost R85 each. The amount is payable to Rotary who purchases the blankets from the company that manufactures them and thereafter distributes them to the relevant beneficiaries.

Shelley Miller, who is involved with the marketing and communications at the LRA, has called upon the Lonehill community and surrounds to get involved as it has been a harsh winter.
“We have no set goal each year. It depends entirely on the amount of money we are able to raise. This year has been particularly tough to the current economic times.

“The partnership has just been started between the LRA and the Rotary Club of Morningside to collect donations for the purchase of blankets.”
Miller added that the collaboration with Rotary will continue, with donations of various necessary items to people and organisations in need.

“The model is based on our other very successful partnerships that serve communities in Johannesburg. We hope to be involved during the year with the collection of non-perishable foods, clothing and so on for distribution to various deserving verified causes.”
