Cook on a mission to feed those in need

The organisation distributes meals every Wednesday at the informal settlement.

Cook, a local charity organisation, handed out warm cooked meals to residents of Brecknock informal settlement situated near the corner of Witkoppen and Main roads recently.

The three members of the organisation who were distributing the meals were greeted with smiles from the residents and lots of hugs from the children. The members of the small community were given warm home-cooked vegetable soup and bread. The food was handed out to more than 60 people including the children.

The children got biscuits after their meals from Denira Varma who is the co-founder and chairperson of the organisation, while Mogisen Iyer and Sherwin Pillay helped dish up the meals. The organisation visits the informal settlement every Wednesday to give them food and help the residents in any way that they can. Their tasty meals usually have vegetables to ensure that the people get the necessary nutrition that they need.

Varma extended her thanks to everyone that has helped the organisation so far.
“If anyone would like to get involved or volunteer, we’d love to have them.”
