Beaulieu Equestrian Academy launches new arena

Learners at Beaulieu College and students at the Beaulieu Equestrian Academy celebrated the launch of a new arena close to the college’s hockey Astroturf.

A new addition to the Beaulieu Equestrian Academy at the college will give riders a new facility to make use of.

The Equestrian Arena launched on July 7 with a number of community members attending who got to view some horse-riding activities.

Post matric learners attend the academy from the beginning of the year until August if they are full-time learners, however, there are learners at the college who take equine studies in their Grade 12 year.

Director of the academy Yvonne Bolton said, “The installation of an equestrian arena has been the dream for both the college equestrian academy and the school’s equine studies department for a very long time.

“The school has amazing facilities, like the hockey Astroturf, and the swimming pool as well, and we felt we were lagging behind. Now we are very glad to have this arena and complete the wonderful facilities at the school.”

She added that the academy had performed well enough to fund a significant portion of the new arena, with funding also coming from the Beaulieu board.

With the development of the arena, Bolton said there were a few plans to utilise the new facility at the school such as hosting riding clinics and other events.

“Many plans come to mind now with this addition to the school. It is planned to hold inter-house competitions in the new arena since the college learners will now feel comfortable in riding their own horse on a far more superior surface.

“There is the possibility of staging an inter-school fun family competition day now that there is a safe and totally acceptable surfaced arena.”
