DA members stage a protest to put pressure on the government to reduce skyrocketing fuel prices

Ward 93 councillor urged residents and motorists to sign the DA’s petition to put pressure on government to reduce fuel prices.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) staged a peaceful protest in Fourways Crossing on July 2 to show their discontent with the recent fuel price increase.

This was after the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced a record fuel price hike that would see motorists paying more for petrol and diesel and consumers for paraffin.
DA councillor in the City of Johannesburg Wendy Alexander said the protest was aimed at putting pressure on the government to reduce the exorbitant taxes on fuel to lower fuel prices.

She said the increase in the fuel prices continued to put economic pressure on millions of South Africans who were struggling because of an ailing economy.

“Fuel prices are regulated, if the government would be able to deregulate the current legislation, that will immediately reduce fuel costs.”

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy who was also part of the demonstration urged residents and motorists to sign the DA’s petition to put pressure on the government to reduce fuel prices.

“The Democratic Alliances has already tabled a paper in parliament requesting the government to accede to this request. We will continue with our protest action until it produces the desired results.”
