Suspects arrested for damage to state property and assaulting a police officer

Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said that the suspects were arrested in Diesploot Ext 7.

Local police received a disturbance of the peace complaint in Diepsloot Ext 7 on Saturday night, July 2, after an alleged ‘street bash’.

On arrival at the address, members of the Diepsloot Police Station attempted to disperse the crowd and were attacked, allegedly by the group.

A group of five men reportedly threw bricks at the state vehicle, leaving it damaged. The group also allegedly physically assaulted one of the police officers.

According to station spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula, the five suspects are between the ages of 19 and 51. “They appeared before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on July 4 on charges of malicious damage to state property and assaulting a police officer,” said Mathebula.

Station Commander Brigadier Koena Moichela has expressed concern over attacks on police and damage of state property. He urged community members to refrain from obstructing police officers from executing their constitutional mandate.
