Beaulieu put six goals past Jeppe

The next fixtures will prove important for Beaulieu as they find themselves third on the log of the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association outdoor league.

Beaulieu premier men’s hockey team had a resounding result against Jeppe winning 6–2 in the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association outdoor league on May 29.
Coming off a 10–0 loss against a strong Wits side, there was a need for a big result against Jeppe on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

In the first chukka, the home side found themselves a goal down early in the game thanks to a field goal by Jeppe’s Leandro Carvalho. A minute later, Beaulieu’s Dalpiarro Langford scored the equaliser to end the first chukka 1–1.
The next 15 minutes saw a continued high level of intense hockey from both teams in which both created a number of chances to extend their lead. It was only in the last minute of the half when Beaulieu’s Keagen Hykes scored to make it 2–1.

Jeppe equalised early in the second half but seconds later, Julian Hykes scored a field goal to put Beaulieu ahead again. The last chukka belonged to Beaulieu as Reza Rosenberg, and Keagen and Julian Hykes put the game out of reach for the visitors.
Captain of the winning side Jesse Salo praised Keagen and Melrick Maddocks for their outstanding play.

“The match went quite well. We went down early through a breakaway goal but the boys pulled it back nicely. We got together and levelled up early, then dominated the game well.

“So far, the league is looking good for us. We did have a slip-up against Wits. With the structure of the league this year, the top six teams go into play-offs so our goal is to make the top six,” he said, adding that the ultimate goal was to win the league.
Beaulieu beat Old Eds 5–1 on June 2 and are set to play UJ on June 12.
