Young learner chosen to play for Gauteng Water Polo Ladies Club.

The Steyn City School Grade 11 learner is set to leave for Portugal on June 15.

A Steyn City School learner has been chosen to play for the Gauteng Water Polo Ladies Club.

Tatum Rogers (17) has only been playing the sport for four years. “I did swimming after school and the one time instead of swimming I tried a water polo training session and I loved every second of it,” she said.

According to Tatum, the sport quickly became her passion. She did everything she could to improve her skills and emulate the first team girls.

Tatum explained what she loves most about playing water polo, “I have met so many friends from doing water polo and have created such a strong bond with all of them. The water polo community in South Africa is small so everyone knows everyone as we play each other week in and week out in school fixtures, tournaments, winter leagues, club games and provincial.”

The Grade 11 learner said she is very proud of her accomplishments. She hopes to get a scholarship overseas for water polo in the future and play for the university while studying sports psychology.

According to her dad, Sean Rogers, Tatum is set to leave for Portugal on June 15 where her team will participate in a tournament and later train with the Portuguese team.

Tatum is excited to experience a different type of water polo and to learn from international coaches.
