Police recover unlicensed firearm and ammunition after tip-off

Diepsloot Station Commander Brigadier Koena Moichela encourages the community to work with the police against crime.

A 20-year-old male was detained for possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition.

According to Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula, police were conducting routine patrols when they received a tip-off from a community member about a man suspected of possessing an unregistered firearm on May 31. Police officers acted quickly and went to the suspect’s residence in the west of Diepsloot.

Officers found the suspect and discovered a handgun in his possession after a search.

He was detained and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after he failed to present a firearm licence when requested.

He was scheduled to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on June 2.

Station Commander Brigadier Koena Moichela praised the informant and urges the community to work with the police in the battle against crime.
