Diepsloot Residents Association member vows to enhance safety in community

Diepsloot resident and association member Edward Mkhomazi is ready to help alleviate crime in the community.

A Diepsloot community member and Diepsloot Residents Association member was voted into the public safety office at the recent ward committee elections on May 14.

Edward Mkhomazi, who has been fulfilling a public safety role in the residents association, was a ward committee candidate for Ward 113. He has been in the security industry for more than 10 years.
He said he is grateful to have received the votes from the community. “I’ve been in this position at Diepsloot Residents Association and I’ll continue to work in both areas. Criminals are terrorising our community of Ward 113 and the whole Diepsloot,” he said.
Mkhomazi aims to enable an environment free from crime and ensure a campaign for change. “Crime needs to stop. I’ll make sure that I fight [crime] in our community together with them.”

He has held this position for almost two weeks since the elections and believes there are a number of concerns to be addressed in the community when it comes to crime and general safety. “Since I have been in the security for a long time, I’m going to use that experience. I have to make sure that I create an atmosphere without the fear of the unknown.

“We want to create an environment friendly to the children, to fight against gender-based violence, to fight gangsterism, and to fight drugs in our community of Diepsloot. The Young Lion is here to make a better township.”
