Rape suspect found dead in cell

DIEPSLOOT – Police had discovered the suspect was allegedly raping his biological daughter since she was seven, which led to his swift arrest.

Diepsloot police are investigating the death of a man while he was in police custody

The 54-year-old suspect was found dead in his cell on March 16. He was alleged to have raped his daughter (11) since she was seven years old. Spokesperson for the police Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said, “This gruesome discovery [of the girl’s rape] was made after the victim’s school teacher had asked her to write her problems in her journal, as she frequently looked unwell in class.
“Members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit traced and arrested the suspect in the early hours of March 16.”
While conducting routine cell inspections, officers discovered the suspect’s body. Emergency personnel were called and declared the suspect dead.
The suspect’s cause of death was still unknown at this stage. An inquest docket into his death is currently under investigation.
