Police appeal for information that can lead to the arrest suspects who robbed congregants

Police spokesperson said 27 cell phones and one laptop were robbed and one victim was shot.

A member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Diepsloot Ext 6, Joshua Nyoni said the church had roped in professional psychologists to help with the counselling of victims following a robbery at the church on March 11.

Nyoni said, “We were about to finish our service when a group of guys [armed with guns] entered the place of worship and demanded our cellphones, laptops and money.

“They shouted, ordered everyone to lie down and shot one member of the church who spent a week in ICU.”

Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said a case of robbery had been opened.
“The police have launched a manhunt after church members were robbed of their valuables,” he said. “It is alleged that congregants were in church when five men armed with firearms accosted them and took 27 cellphones… A 27-year-old male victim was shot in the shoulder during the robbery and was rushed to hospital soon after.

“A case of business robbery and attempted murder were being investigated and we appeal to anyone with information that can assist in apprehending the suspects to contact Diepsloot Police Station on 011 367 6300 or anonymously contact our Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or send a tip-off on MySAPS app which is downloadable on any smartphone.”
