DAINFERN – Leaners, staff and even parents showed support for cancer patients at Dainfern College’s annual shavathon for Cansa.

Dainfern College learners and staff members got involved in the annual Cansa (Cancer Association of South Africa) Shavathon on March 4.

The school raised R44 430 to be donated with the staff and learners being avid supporters of the cause.
Head of outreach at the school, Cheryl Coetzee thanked all who got involved on the day throughout the school. “The atmosphere in all sections of the school was amazing and it was lovely seeing the rainbow hair. A big thank you to everyone who assisted, contributed and participated in this event and showed our community that you care.”

The junior prep parent class representatives aided the grades 0 to 3 learners with the sprayathon who got to add a variety of colours and patterns to their parents’ hair for them to wear for the rest of the day.
Grade 7 learner Jenna van Niekerk cut her hair to donate to the cause, and also brought her sister’s hair as well. Another donor for the day, Anthony Egbers had raised some extra funds for the cause. His daughter, Regan got to shave his head for him.

Another parent who had his head shaved for the cause was Kaide Nel. Most of the high school learners opted to spray their hair but a brave number also shaved their hair in solidarity with cancer patients.
