Aged infrastructure a cause behind constant water pipe bursts in ward 115

CRAIGAVON– Van der Merwe said water network in and around Fourways area was being upgraded to respond to the issue of constant water pipe in these areas.

Ward 115 councillor Mark van der Merwe said he was hoping that City Power and Johannesburg Water would soon find a lasting solution to the issues of water and power outages in and around the Fourways area.

This after an outcry over almost weekly water outages from residents of Norscot, Douglasdale, Craigavon, Cedar Avenue, Chartwell, Fourways and Msawawa.

Van der Merwe said, “There are pipe replacement projects currently underway in different areas around Fourways constituency. Water networks have and are being upgraded to respond to the issue. The main cause of water outages in the area is our water infrastructure which is very old and dates back to 1967.
“We’ve [Fourways constituency councillors ] recently met with the MMC for Environment Infrastructure Service Department, Michael Sun and top executives of Johannesburg Water and City Power to highlight all the issues. The two entities have been tasked by the MMC to come back with a strategy to rectify the situation.”

He encouraged residents to join service delivery groups set up by the councillors to communicate with their community members.
