Ward 115 councillor Mark van der Merwe wishes community a restful holiday

FOURWAYS – While his tenure as councillor has been less than two months, Mark van der Merwe has been at the forefront of community issues in Ward 115.

Newly elected councillor of Ward 115, Mark van der Merwe gave his round-up of the year and wished residents a safe festive season.

Van der Merwe was elected as councillor of Ward 115 on November 1, but has been voluntarily involved in the ward’s service delivery for the last 10 years.

The councillor said there are a few key people in the community who have assisted when it comes to logging issues in the various areas as in the year, he managed to escalate over 750 issues, with 200 being reported by him.
While he was not councillor during these projects in the community, Van der Merwe listed a number of successes in the ward that took place in the year.

“I think the major project around the ward was the water pipe line replacements in Jukskei Park, Johannesburg North, and Fourways that are still ongoing into the Fourways area of Ward 115.

“Secondly, I personally assisted three councillors with the over 350 burst water pipes in Fourways. I was on-site except for two when I ended up in hospital after a driveway caved in below me and I disappeared into a 3m hole. Thirdly, between residents and myself I think we reported over a 1 000 issues that were resolved.”

He continued to wish the community well on their year-end endeavours. “If you’re travelling away on holiday please travel safely and get back home safe. I’ll be here over the holidays and between myself and the team of volunteers we will continue assisting with service delivery uninterrupted so just put your issues on the 115 groups and we will do our best to resolve them.”
