Rotary Club grateful for successful year

FOURWAYS – Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club wishes all peace and prosperity looking to the new year.

Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club shared a list of their successes during the year, which included many projects that assisted the less fortunate.

Public relations and membership officer, Steve Margo said one of the successes was a blanket drive the club ran, which saw about 12 500 blankets distributed thanks to the participation of 22 local Rotary Clubs in the country.
“Our second highlight must be the donation of over R500 000 from an overseas foundation, enabling our club to distribute 150 food hampers to 150 deserving families in Diepsloot for six consecutive months.
“Our third highlight would possibly be the extremely successful Toys for Joy – a toy drive which we are presently busy with,” he said.

Both the toy and blanket drives have been organised by Rotary for the past 12 years, and Margo mentioned challenges in the past year included raising the required funds, running planned projects due to Covid-19 restrictions, and the inability to meet face to face regularly, which was important for project planning and working with the community.

Looking at a non-material wish-list for the next year, Margo said the list for the club included:

  • Peace and prosperity for all
  • Being able to raise enough funding for all our projects
  • Recruiting more members to Rotary and supporting us with more projects
  • Formation of partnerships with commercial companies, with the aim of assisting them in organising and running their CSI projects
  • Regular updates on Rotary projects to the public.
