Due to the continued Covid-19 isolation restrictions, a local school was challenged to take the outreach spirit home to their families to spread Christmas cheer this December.
With the whole school on board for the Christmas Hamper project, families of learners from Grade 0 through to Grade 12 contributed by providing basic items to vulnerable communities.
The College Outreach team decided what each phase had to collect:
- Grades 0 to 3 collected stationery items, including pencils, pens, rulers, sharpeners and erasers.
- Grades 4 to 7 collected packs of 12 pencil crayons.
- Grades 8 to 12 collected packets of individually wrapped lollipops or chew sweets.
The Grade 7 learners also gave an hour of their time to pack the items into bags – which was a whopping total of 300 packs.
Deputy principal Cheryl Coetzee, also part of learner well-being and outreach, thanked the community for supporting their community initiatives. “These stationery packs will go a long way to relieving the financial pressure on the students and their families, and will ensure the students start the 2022 academic year off on the right foot,” she said.
“The packs will be distributed to ReShomile Primary and LEAP4 schools in Diepsloot in the coming weeks.”
