Green Door Shelter partners with Hand in Hand Southern Africa to teach women about financial freedom

DIEPSLOOT– Lekekela said his organisation has partnered with different organisation and professionals to help equip woman to be financially smart.

Founder and chairperson of local non-profit organisation Green Door Shelter, Brown Lekekela said it was important to teach women how to be financially independent to arrest the scourge of gender-based violence in society.

To this end, the organisation that helps victims of rape, domestic violence and sexual assault in Diepsloot, partnered with Hand in Hand Southern Africa to educate local women on how to become financially independent.
“One of the factors that compel women to remain in toxic and abusive relationships is the fact that some of them are dependent on their abusers.

Green Door and Hand in Hand Southern Africa conducted training on how to use money wisely, how to start a business in order to escape gender-based violence and femicide,” said Lekekela.

“Our aim is to ensure that women learn the means to be financially independent. We teach them different means of generating income from the little they have. As we approach the festive season, we want to help them spend their money wisely. We know that many people spend their money on less important things in December.”
