Lonehill still without power

LONEHILL – Eskom said they are working hard to restore power in the affected areas but no estimated time of repair has been provided yet.

Lonehill Residents Association (LRA) has described a 40-hour power outage in the area as an ‘absolute nightmare’.

Lonehill and surrounding areas were plunged into darkness on Wednesday night (November 17) due to cable damage that occurred while Johannesburg Water was digging in the area. Marketing manager at the association, Shelley Miller said the association has been inundated with calls from frustrated residents.

“Forty hours without power is unacceptable. There is a lack of information and urgency from Eskom and we feel like we are being ill-informed about the problem and have no commitment to solving the issue. Our residents are disillusioned, frustrated. Our ageing infrastructure needs to be repaired and replaced,” Miller said.

Eskom spokesperson Amanda Qithi said the utility was working around the clock to solve the problem. “Eskom apologises to all our customers for the inconvenience. We are attending to an outage affecting customers in Douglasdale, Sunninghill and surrounding areas. This is due to accidental damage to our cables caused by Joburg Water employees whilst digging in the area,” Qithi said.

No estimated time of repair has been provided yet.
