ANC candidate claims to win Ward 96

DAINFERN – DA Ward 96 councillor candidate Sbusiso Mthembu indicated that his party lost most of its votes to Herman Mashaba's newly formed ActionSA.

The ANC Ward 96 candidate in the City of Johannesburg, Rufas Maswazi, claimed to be the new ward councillor.

Maswazi said he was truly humbled by the support he received from voters and members of the community. “I am ready to serve the people and deal with the backlog of service delivery in the area.”

He told the Fourways Review that the DA received a total of 3 394 votes (33.64%) and ANC received 3 699 (39.03%).
Ward 96 covers the suburbs of Dainfern, Chartwell, Steyn City, Farmall, Broadacres and surrounds.

The DA candidate and former Ward 96 councillor, Sbusiso Mthembu, said his party lost most of its votes to Herman Mashaba’s newly formed Action SA. “I would like to thank everyone for the support and believing in me.
“The Herman Mashaba factor affected us badly in the English-speaking communities. We lost close to 1 000 votes in the DA stronghold voting stations and that gave the ANC a chance to defeat the DA. We lost the ward by roughly 500 votes to the ANC.”

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) is expected to announce the official results in the evening of November 4 at the Results Operation Centre at the Tswane Events Centre in Pretoria.
