Jukskei residents to see the light again

JUKSKEI PARK – City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena mentioned a concern of vandalism of the street lights in the community.

Non-working street lights in Jukskei Park are gradually being repaired by City Power.

The dark streets have been a concern for residents, especially regarding crime.

Community member, Chris Neumann, said there had been some improvement in the lighting on Robyn, Saffier and Mangaan streets. “Chroom Street is still in need of repairs, but they have been getting stuff done, which we as a community are grateful for from a security aspect. Especially since we are going into Christmas, you want to make sure that street lights are working and you want to do the best you can from a security perspective,” he said.

“Residents in a complex along Mangaan Street where we had a security incident, were very grateful for the repairs as some [street lights] have not been working for months. It’s great to see that they [City Power] are responding to calls and doing something about the lights.”

Spokesperson for City Power Isaac Mangena said there was a lot of vandalism of street lights in the area. “We have fixed all of the lights and residents have seen that, but what we are seeing is a deliberate and concerted effort by certain individuals who are hell-bent on seeing the streets in the area dark at night for whatever reason. We don’t rule out criminality,” he said.

Mangena urged residents to assist them by reporting any suspicious activity they observe in the area to the police, local neighbourhood watches or City Power.
