St Peter’s Girls Prep implement buddy system

PAULSHOF – For the next six weeks, Grade 2 and 6 learners at St Peter’s Girls Prep will become buddies to become more familiar with big school life.

Grade 2 and 6 learners at St Peter’s Girls Prep have partnered up from the week of October 4 to be buddies for the next six weeks for the third term.

The tradition originated a few years ago to encourage a seamless transition for Grade 2 girls when they start Grade 3. The purpose of the two grades partnering is to become more familiar with their respective head of house, who plays an active role in assisting the girls when they start grades 3 and 4 the middle school years.

The middle school is situated in a different section of the school, with most of the teachers being unfamiliar to the girls. The buddies provide support and friendship as the girls adjust to their new environment.

The girls were told their house and were introduced to head of the middle school, Rachel Amm, and their Grade 6 buddy.

Marketing manager at the school Nthabeleng Nhlapo said, “During the next few weeks, the girls will be involved in several activities with their buddies. This will provide them with an opportunity to get to know one another. Some of the activities include flower planting, teddy bear picnic and story time to name a few.

“St Peter’s Girls Prep School invests extensively in the emotional and social well-being of each child and their families, believing that it is difficult for meaningful learning to occur without the right balance of IQ and EQ.”
