Hotel is the bee’s knees

FOURWAYS – With new knowledge on bees, Grade 3 learners at Crawford International Fourways hung bee hotels for bees in the area.

Grade 3 learners of Crawford International Fourways Preparatory decorated and hung a number of bee hotels in Lonehill Park last month as part of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

Head of marketing at the school, Tasneem Evans said, “There is also an emphasis on children becoming both local and global citizens and giving back to their communities in responsible and positive ways.

Evans added, “With this in mind, the children at Crawford International Fourways have been linking their new knowledge gained, with projects that will make a difference in our community.”

Learners also hung the bee hotels at school and their homes to assist in the safe nesting and continuation of more than 1 000 solitary bee types that were important in pollinating plants.

“Note that these bees are all passive and do not sting,” concluded Evans.
