Diepsloot petrol station suspects remanded in custody

DIEPSLOOT – Two suspects were involved in a crash after being chased by police from a filling station along the N14 in Diepsloot.


Two suspects who were allegedly involved in a spate of thefts out of vehicles at a petrol filling station on the N14 near Diepsloot were remanded in custody.

The suspects, aged 36 and 48, had appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on September 8. They faced charges of possession of suspected stolen property, possession of car break-in implements, and reckless and negligent driving.

According to Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula, police had been monitoring the petrol station for some time.

“One of the suspected vehicles, a grey Mercedes-Benz sedan, with two male suspects inside arrived at the N14 South Petroport while the police were lying in wait [on September 3,” he said.

“The suspects allegedly sped off when they spotted the police and caused an accident while being chased by police.”

After they crashed their vehicle, the suspects fled the scene on foot. Police investigative work led to the arrest of the two suspects on September 6 in Soweto and Krugersdorp.

Diepsloot Station Commander Brigadier Koena Moichela, commended the efforts of those involved in the arrest of the suspects.

“Criminals cannot terrorise communities with impunity and Diepsloot police will stop at nothing in stamping the authority of the State,” said Moichela.
