Makhura, who was accompanied by officials of the Department of Health, visited the Witkoppen health facility vaccination site which is one of 660 vaccination sites in the province, on July 27. He promised to provide the facility with more resources so a target of 1 000 vaccinations per day could be reached.

“I am truly impressed with the vaccination process on this site. More than 600 people are being vaccinated per day with limited resources that the clinic has at their disposal,” he said.
Makhura said they had seen a very positive response from people in the province who wanted to get vaccinated unlike at the beginning of the vaccination roll-out process.
“I am glad that the country has received additional Johnson & Johnson [vaccines] yesterday [26 July].

Our partnership with the private sector and non-profit organisations will help reach the desired numbers by December this year. We encourage eligible people to get vaccinated even if they have not registered. They can walk in and get their jabs.

“Our vaccination sites will not turn away people simply because they are not registered, they must come. We want Gauteng to vaccinate as many people as possible come December.”
Makhura also thanked the youngsters who were helping at the facility as part of the Yes for Youth programme.

“We have the best team of young people from the Yes for Youth programme who have been very [helpful] at this vaccination site.

In the process, these young people are getting the necessary skills and workplace experience. The participation of unemployed youth in this process helps us kill two birds with one stone.”
