One arrested on fraud charges

MIDRAND – A suspect was arrested for fraud after using fraudulent proof of payments to acquire goods amounting to R40 000 from a tyre shop in Midrand, Halfway House on 25 May.

A suspect was arrested for fraud after allegedly using fraudulent proof of payments to acquire goods from a tyre shop in Halfway House amounting to R40 000 on 25 May.

According to Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Constable Eliot Mabulane, police were alerted by the tyre shop after an e-hailing taxi driver was sent to collect the goods. This was allegedly the third time the suspect had provided a fraudulent proof of payment to the company to acquire goods.

“The first and second time the suspect succeeded by getting tyres and batteries from the company, the stock was allegedly taken to Zimbabwe. Today the police followed the taxi after acting swiftly on the information they received where they managed to arrest one suspect,” Mabulane said.

“The suspect will make his first appearance in court to answer to all allegations. More information gathering will be executed to trace other suspects.”

Midrand Police Station Commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso expressed concern over the increase of crime in the Midrand community and applauded the officers for the arrest.

“I believe one suspect off the street makes our community safe and more arrests will be imminent,” he said.

“I would like to call upon the community to report any dodgy activities happening around the area to the police. Midrand has also deployed police all over the area of Midrand to curb crime and arrest suspects.”

Tsotsotso concluded, “We appreciate the good working relationship of all security [companies] within the area of Midrand by always availing themselves to fight crime.”
