Two police stations and two community policing forums (CPF) came together to help the fight against crime by conducting a ‘cross-border’ operation on Malibongwe Drive and President Fouche Drive in Randburg recently.
Officers of Douglasdale and Honeydew police stations assisted Honeydew CPF and Douglasdale CPF members in handing out flyers to community members warning them of the increase in smash-and-grabs at the intersection.
Public relations officer for Honeydew CPF, Michael Steyn said both forums and stations came together with the goal to warn the community of the hotspot areas.
“I think the most important thing is for all CPFs in the area is to take hands. At the end of the day, we are all neighbours and it’s good for the community to see,” Steyn explained.
“The same way we have the police services in the area working together, the same can be said about the CPF members.”
Chairperson of Douglasdale CPF Sector One, Franzois Oosthuizen said he wanted to have another operation such as this in the future. “We wouldn’t want to only work with Honeydew CPF, but with other stations as well. I want to reach out to other police stations. Both us and Honeydew have Randburg Police Station on our border,” he told the Fourways Review.
Some of the tips that were shared with the community during the operation included:
• Lock your vehicle at all times
• Ensure your windows are closed at all times
• Do not use your phone while driving
• Keep valuables out of sight
• Be vigilant at all times.
