Diepsloot Care Foundation aids in pad donations

DIEPSLOOT – From a Midrand resident to a Diepsloot organisation, the Diepsloot Care Foundation pays it forward to young girls at Paradise Bend Primary School.

Grade 7 learners at a Diepsloot school were grateful for the donations of sanitary pads from a community organisation on 20 April.

The Diepsloot Care Foundation donated 68 packs of sanitary pads to learners at Paradise Bend Primary School thanks to another donation from a Midrand resident who is paying it forward.

Founder of the foundation, Sydney Morabe said the pads were donated by Mbali Ndlovu from Midrand who also receives donations from friends, family, colleagues and other members of the public.

“Mbali Ndlovu then donates the pads to us in batches. We really need more sanitary pads as we want to go to as many schools as we can. Five members of the Diepsloot Care Foundation went to Paradise Bend Primary School to donate the sanitary pads,” Morabe said.

He also highlighted the importance of empowering and educating young girls in the community, as well as giving back. “For me, menstrual health is the biggest challenge faced by young girls in South Africa.

“A lot of girls are without access [to sanitary pads] and it infiltrates in their studies, self-confidence and self-esteem. Something as little or small as that can take away dignity and my aim is to restore that dignity.”

Assistant teacher at the school, Closet Maluleke said everyone was incredibly grateful for the donation of pads to the learners.

“There are many learners here at the school who cannot afford pads, so we are very grateful for the donation from the Diepsloot Care Foundation,” she said.

“This is not the first time they have donated to us and helped the learners here. They have also donated a number of new school shoes as well almost two weeks ago. So they really do support us and our learners.”

Morabe concluded that once there were more sanitary pads available for donation to the community of Diepsloot, there will be another handout to schools in the area.
