Dozens arrested during a joint operation

DOUGLASDALE – Multiple weekend police operations worked to keep various Fourways communities safe in having over 90 suspects arrested for various crimes.


The weekend of 9 to 11 April was a busy one for Douglasdale police as a number of joint operations took place with nearly 100 suspects arrested.

An operation between the police and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) conducted throughout the Douglasdale area saw 33 suspects arrested.

Spokesperson for the Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said police will continue with operations like these to ensure the safety of the Douglasdale community.

Tshetlhane said, “Suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, assault common, dealing liquor without a licence, reckless and negligent driving, dealing dagga, drinking in public and shoplifting.”

She added, “The arrested suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.”

In a second operation over the same period, Douglasdale police also joined in operations in various areas with police from different parts of Joburg West which includes Florida, Diepsloot, Roodepoort, Linden, Randburg and Honeydew. This operation resulted in 63 arrests.

“Suspects were arrested for various crimes from rape, murder, contravention of the Disaster Management Act, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, assault common, fraud, drunken driving, possession of drugs, theft, dealing in liquor without a license, shoplifting, and reckless and negligent driving,” Tshetlhane added.

Suspects who were arrested will soon appear in the Randburg and Roodepoort magistrates’ courts.

Community members are still encouraged by the police to keep reporting all criminal activities in their areas by phoning 011 699 1300/1320 or on 08600 10111.

Alternatively, they can use the MySAPS to send anonymous tip-offs or go to the nearest police station.
