Supporters go ‘Madd’

DAINFERN – The greater Dainfern community came together with an outreach group at their first fundraising function for a local NPO.

The Dainfern community donated items and funds at a fundraiser organised for the non-profit organisation Tears Foundation on 13 April.

Making a Difference with Dainfern (Madd) is an outreach group of volunteers based in the suburb which donated a number of items to the Tears Foundation, which specialises in the assistance and support network for survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

Founder of charity Bags of Love and member of Madd, Susan Harwood said the outreach group is planning to have something like this on a monthly basis. Her foundation, Bags of Love has worked with Tears for a number of years, supplying the women with handbags with various items inside.

“We put together kits for ladies who have been violated in any way, so that when they go to the police station to report what happened, they have a change of clothing and toiletries,” she said.

Harwood said the proceeds from the raffle and entrance will go to the Tears Foundation, alongside the 12 Bags of Love and gently used clothing items. From Tears, the bags will be going to police stations.

The morning featured talks from CEO and founder of Tears Foundation, Mara Glennie, followed by raffle draws of various prizes from a number of sponsors for the fundraiser.

Glennie said she was appreciative of the assistance from the Dainfern community, Bags of Love and their donations. “The people here have hearts to give and hearts to serve even though they live in a lovely area… This is truly a place that cares about the community,” she said.
