Diepsloot foundation in need of new equipment

DIEPSLOOT – Looking to the new football and netball season, a new foundation’s sports sides are in need of new equipment and kit for players.

A new foundation in Diepsloot is looking for kit donations ahead of the start of their football team’s league.

Diepsloot Care Foundation was established last year and it established the Care Football Club. The club was previously known as Zathi Football Club. The team is now playing in the Diepsloot stream within the Rand Central Local Football Association.

Care Football Club has asked for assistance from the community to help them prepare for the season, which begins in May.

The foundation’s founder and coach of the football team, Sydney Morabe, said the goal of the foundation is to ensure that the most vulnerable and at-risk groups in the community have their basic needs taken care of.

He also spoke on the need of keeping the youth in the community active. “I saw this [starting the football club] as an opportunity to help keep kids off the street and helping them know where their talent could get them.

“Our main cause here at Diepsloot Care Foundation is feeding children, with soup kitchens, an issue that touches many lives, particularly those in the Diepsloot area. We also get involved in clean-ups in surrounding areas.”

The renaming of the football club came when the previous coach left last year after which Morabe took over in coaching duties to make up for time and coaching lost. “With the love and passion we had for football, I took over the team and changed the name to Care FC as I was the oldest then. We then started playing around Diepsloot.”

The foundation has football from U12 to seniors with four divisions, and netball with two divisions from U12 to U18. Morabe said the donations will benefit both sporting codes to get the training and skills growth needed. “We need training equipment, balls for training along with soccer kit and netball kit, for all our divisions which are 12 to senior including the netball team.”
