Quick response from Diepsloot police leads to four arrested for robbery

DIEPSLOOT – One female and three males were expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for business robbery.


Diepsloot police arrested four suspects between the ages of 29 and 41 for allegedly committing business robbery on 5 April at a shopping mall in Ext 9.

Police were conducting crime prevention duties when they received word of a business robbery taking place.

Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said of the five suspects, one managed to flee on foot. His accomplices, however were cornered in their getaway car as they were attempting to flee. “The store manager alleges that the suspects posed as new security officials who were there to work night shift as instructed by their manager,” she said.

“One suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at the store manager and instructed him to open the safe. After learning that the store manager did not have the safe key, the suspects allegedly used explosives to try to break open the safe, but they did not succeed.”

The suspects currently face charges of business robbery, possession of explosives, malicious damage to property and property and possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle. They were expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 8 April.
