Witkoppen Clinic first group happy frontline workers happy to be vaccinated

WITKOPPEN– Mogapi said though she understands that the process was still part of the vaccine trial, she was happy that at least she has something to fight the virus in case of infection.

Front-line health workers at Witkoppen Clinic have encouraged community members to get vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus when it’s their turn in the queue.

This was after the first group of front-line health workers at the clinic recently received their vaccine jabs for Covid-19 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Professional nurse and head of department in the preventive unit, Thembisile Makhombothi said she was excited to be among the first group that received the vaccine jab. “I am happy that I have finally got my vaccine jab.

As health workers, we are exposed and more likely to contract the virus because of our working environment,” she said. “I told myself when the minister announced the arrival of the first stock that I will be among the first in the queue. It was a special event for me though I am not prepared to let my guard down.”

Primary healthcare nurse, Palesa Mogapi said though she understands that the process was still part of a vaccine trial, she was happy that at least she has something to fight the virus in case of infection. “Even though it’s not 100 per cent guaranteed that one is immune once vaccinated, I’m glad that I have something to prevent contracting the virus at least up to 70 per cent. I urge all community members to get vaccinated and disregard myths and fake stories making the rounds on social media platforms.

Covid-19 virus is real and it kills. Many people have died due to complications related to the virus.” Head of the tuberculosis department, Lawrence Mlotshwa appealed to members of the public to continue adhering to restrictions and protocols put in place by government to flatten the curve. “We must continue and try by all means to adhere to all preventative measures to stop the spread of this deadly virus. Even after getting the vaccine, we must keep our masks on and practise social distance,” he said.
