A 27-year-old suspect was arrested on 25 February for allegedly trying to remove spotlights from a complex on Nanyuki Road in Sunninghill at about 7am.
According to Sunninghill Ratepayers Association chairperson Linda Gildenhuys, officers in a Savika Armed Response patrol vehicle noticed three men trying to remove spotlights from the wall of the complex.
“He called for backup and proceeded to chase the suspects. A warning shot was fired and one suspect was arrested. Unfortunately, the other two managed to get away,” she said.
Sandton Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bheki Xulu said, “The man was arrested for malicious damage to property when security guards found him with two other men trying to remove the spotlights from the complex wall.”
Gildenhuys said the reaction officer involved would receive a reward for his efforts and bravery.
