Seven arrested for jewellery robbery

HALFWAY HOUSE – Midrand police arrested seven suspects in connection with a jewellery store robbery that took place in Halfway House.

Midrand police arrested seven suspects for allegedly robbing a jewellery store.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Constable Elliot Mabulane said the robbery took place on 14 March at about 10.10am at a store in Halfway House.

Mabulane explained that one suspect entered the store pretending to be a customer, and then allegedly pointed his firearm at the tellers and ordered them to go to the storeroom where they were forced to take a number of items from the safe and put them in bags.

He said two other suspects also entered the store and the three got away with 64 cell phones, five laptops and an undisclosed amount of jewellery.

Mabulane added, “Unfortunately for the suspects, the stolen cell phones were fitted with trackers and the suspects were traced to Ivory Park and arrested by the police’s highway patrol unit.”

The police arrested an additional four suspects for their role in the robbery.

All the stolen items were recovered. The seven suspects were charged with possession of stolen property and robbery, and were also linked to other robbery cases in Tembisa and Midrand policing districts.

Mabulane concluded, “We would like to thank the highway patrol for their swift response to arrest the suspects.”
