Community members show kindness to Reshomile Primary School learners

DIEPSLOOT– Xulu said some of our learners are sometimes forced to skip classes when they are on periods and don’t have sanitary towels.

In an effort to offer a helping hand to children from poor families, Diepsloot based non-profit organisation, Green Door Shelter and a few members of the community visited Reshomile Primary School to donate sanitary towels.

Green Door Shelter provides a safe shelter and support for victims of rape, domestic violence or sexual assault in Diepsloot. Founder and chairperson Brown Lekekela said, “We decided to embark on an initiative to donate sanitary towels and other items like toothpaste, bath soap and roll-on to children at Reshomile Primary School because we are aware that some don’t have these things.

“The first days at the beginning of the year are very crucial for children. We are also aware of the difficulties that girls from poor families go through when they are on their periods.”

Principal of Reshomile Primary School, Deidrey Xulu said, “We really appreciate community members for their generosity. Some of our learners are sometimes forced to skip classes when they are on periods and don’t have sanitary towels.

“Most of our learners are from disadvantaged families with no one working at home. We would also like to encourage others, especially businesses to lend a helping hand if possible.”
