A 27-year-old suspect who was allegedly involved in two murders committed in Diepsloot on 14 February has been arrested.
Officers of Dobsonville Police Station were on duty when they received information from an informant about a male suspect who was being pursued by Diepsloot Police Station for murder.
Spokesperson for the Diepsloot Police Station, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said the officers of Dobsonville Police Station went to the address in Diepsloot provided by the informant and found a man matching the description provided.
The suspect was then handed over to Diepsloot Police Station.
“The suspect allegedly shot dead two men in Diepsloot after they had an argument while drinking alcohol. [The suspect] alleges that the two deceased swore at him during an altercation and he shot them as a result.
“After committing the offence, he went to hide at his friend’s place in Ext 11. The following day he fled to Dobsonville,” he said.
When making a confession to the police, the suspect said he threw the firearm away into the nearby river.
“He pointed out the place to the police. A search was conducted but the police could not find the firearm. The Water Wing unit has been activated to assist with the search. “Diepsloot police are currently profiling the suspect to possibly link him to other crimes that he might have committed.”
The suspect is due to appear in court.
