Local councillor pleased with progress

LONEHILL– Work is progressing well in Bryanston water pipe upgrade with 90 per cent of the pipe laid and only two road crossings outstanding.

The City of Johannesburg water utility, Joburg Water said the water pipe upgrade project in Lonehill which commenced in October last year, would be completed at the end of February.

The spokesperson at Joburg Water, Isaac Dhludhlu, said the purpose of the project on Dennis Road was to link the two distribution water pipes between Bryanston reservoir and Lonehill to improve water pressure, and the capacity of the current water system to meet the growing demand for water in the area.

“The Bryanston water pipe upgrade on Dennis Road in Lonehill will be completed by the end of this month. Work is progressing well with 90 per cent of the pipe laid and only two road crossings outstanding. The only challenge now is that there are two sections with lots of groundwater and we are currently putting sub-soil drainage. The contractor is also awaiting delivery of the two isolation valves,” Dhludhlu added.

Ward 93 councillor Candice James said she was happy with the progress of the project and hoped that it would end constant pipe bursts that resulted in water wastage. “I had no issues or problems with the project… The contractor just needs to do some drilling and finish up the work at the end of this month,” James said.

“We hope that the upgrade will help with efficient water supply and provision in Lonehill area.”
