Suspect accused of killing girlfriend is caught

JOBURG – Brigadier David Ngcobo from Ivory Park Police Station appealed that anyone finding themselves in an abusive relationship should seek help as early as possible.

Police in Ivory Park arrested a 32-year-old man late on 10 February for the alleged murder of his girlfriend.

Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane said that the victim was stabbed twice on the upper body with a screwdriver and was certified dead at the scene. He added that the couple allegedly had an argument after the suspect accused the deceased of texting her ex-boyfriend.

Ivory Park Police Station Commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo expressed shock at the killing. He thanked the local community patrollers for their timely response to the incident as this ensured that the suspect could not escape before the police arrived.

“I am saddened to hear that the deceased has been in an abusive environment for some time and none of the people adjacent [to her] ever thought of calling us for a timely intervention.”

He concluded that gender-based violence is prevalent in the community and he appealed to the community to be the eyes and ears for the police.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to face charges to face a charge of murder.
